From Robert E Miller's notes which he gathered from many sources:

The Killian family were probably in the Celtic or Kelt race in western Europe. They were members of the Gauls and their continental kin, those speaking languages akin to the ancient Gauls including the Bretons, Cornish, Welsh, Irish, Manx, and Gaelic. It is said they resided in Palatine, a state of the old German empire under the rule of Count Palatine.

There were large migrations into the German homeland led by Irish missionaries and monks, followers of St Killian, who came from northern Ireland.

His real name was Clegwallabog, but he was an orator, and the name Killian was given him because it meant "orator". He became the patron saint of South Germany and his followers became known as Killians and that name was probably adopted by some as a family name.

Hans Kilian and his wife Ursula are the first recorded names of the family.

Bartholomus Kilian is regarded as the actual founder of the family. (Note the original spelling was Kilian). He was a metal worker in copper and silver engraving and was a jewel maker.

Andreas Killian came to the USA from Ireland via Holland. Andreas emigrated to the US on the English ship Adventure. His brother Heinrich also came to the US. They lived in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Note from Gladys Miller Harmon June 15, 1981:  

Guess I'd better tell you what I remember about the Killians as Edith just related to me the other day in a phone call. Said Emma Jo (Harmon) has been traveling for Neo-Life and makes it to court houses in Georgia and such places and runs people down afterward and gets letters, etc. One was from a Killian in Connecticut. Doesn't know how he heard of her. He said four Killian brothers in Germany about the time of Martin Luther emigrated to America. One was named Andreas, and there were three not named (to me anyway).

He said Andreas had a family and descendants. The three others did not. (End of them).

The country (USA) is full of Killians and they are practically all Andreas' descendants. (Maybe she said ALL). One branch became Mormon. Lots of those. But he doesn't belong to the Mormon Killians. Anywhere you find a Killian they'll be descendants of Andreas Killian. One Killian down from William K who descended from John K Ju, son of John K, son of Andreas. Our grandmother was Elizabeth Killian.

Old Saint Paul’s Church Cemetery located about one mile northwest of Newton, North Carolina. It was unveiled Oct. 19, 1952, it was erected near his grave and there was approx. 1000 descendants and friends at the unveiling. The scrapbook page my grandmother had this info typed on should have gone to a second page, but we can’t find it. She typed "... which was presided over by Jesse C. Sigmon, President of the Killian"

I can make out a little bit from the picture and the tombstone reads:

Our pioneer ancestor came from Germany on the ship "Adventure" landing at Philadelphia where he took the Oath of Allegiance September 23, 1732. He came to North Carolina about 1747 and later established a home about two miles northwest of Newton, North Carolina.

John and Elizabeth lived in Anson County, North Carolina as early as 1747 and had land on the Catawba River. The other Killians also moved south from Pennsylvania.

His sons David & William were appointed Administrators of Estate of Mathias, December 13, 1830, in Davies County, Indiana. (Estate settlement of Mathias, September 20,1834, Book C, page 369). Davies County lists Elizabeth, his wife, and 6heirs. Mathias was born in near St. Paul Church, Newton, North Carolina. He is probably buried in Davies County.

Based on work by William L. Hinds I now believe David may have been the son of Abraham son of John son of Andreas. For years, I have shown him as son of John the soldier (b 1758) based on J Yates Killian's work, but census records do not support that theory. Another possibility is that David is a son of Daniel born 1766 (son of Andrew II) by a previous marriage since he lived near Daniel's son in Cherokee County, NC. Daniel sold his land and moved to Buncombe County in 1803 when David would have been four years old. If there was a first wife who died about then or if there was a divorce, David could have been raised by a relative or step-father. It is a stretch, but I feel there must be a closer connection between David and Daniel than previous research has shown.

Others believe he moved to Clay Co, IN. 1850 census shows David Kilen age 58 with children Caroline age 30, Andrew 25, Rachael 23, David 21, Mary 18, Mary J 16 (I believe this a different David Killian since he and Rachel were in Cherokee County, NC in 1850 census).

The additional data on the family of Logan comes from Nora HENRY, RIN 4027. She believes that by age 62 (from 1850 Dade Co Census) he was married to Christina DIETZ. I have Christiana DIETZ as a dau of Jacob DIETZ RIN 3406. Nora Henry by examination of Dade Co., GA records says the following: ... Parthena, sometimes spelled Parthenia who married and divorced (1857) David KILLIAN. Parthena died 1884, still going by the name of Killian (or Killion) and left behind a sizeable estate for the times. Not being completely settled until 1891. The 1850 census shows Jane Cartright 78 born NC and Parthena Cartright 38 born TN. I believe this to be the same Parthena who David divorced for in comparing land transactions David had given, (in the divorce) to her a lot of land which has the exact same description as one of the four in Parthena's estate. Jane was probably her mother. Jane was the widow of James Cartright, sometimes spelled Cartwright, who died 1848 Dade Co., GA. Parthines left 6 heirs to her estate. Because of the ages of the males on 1850 census they had to have been her brothers and sisters. All being 2 or more years older than her except one age 35. Two male heirs of Parthenia were administrators of the estate of Jane Cartright.... One yearly return of the estate of Parthina gives $40 was paid and it went to the estate of David Killian. This was for the year 1886. ...On one of the films I find that an inventory is to be made on the estate of David Killian 6 Jan 1868.

The additional data on the family of Logan comes from Nora HENRY, RIN 4027. She believes that by age 62 (from 1850 Dade Co Census) he was married to Christina DIETZ. I have Christiana DIETZ as a dau of Jacob DIETZ RIN 3406. Nora Henry by examination of Dade Co., GA records says the following: ... Parthena, sometimes spelled Parthenia who married and divorced (1857) David KILLIAN. Parthena died 1884, still going by the name of Killian (or Killion) and left behind a sizeable estate for the times. Not being completely settled until 1891. The 1850 census shows Jane Cartright 78 born NC and Parthena Cartright 38 born TN. I believe this to be the same Parthena who David divorced for in comparing land transactions David had given, (in the divorce) to her a lot of land which has the exact same description as one of the four in Parthena's estate. Jane was probably her mother. Jane was the widow of James Cartright, sometimes spelled Cartwright, who died 1848 Dade Co., GA. Parthines left 6 heirs to her estate. Because of the ages of the males on 1850 census they had to have been her brothers and sisters. All being 2 or more years older than her except one age 35. Two male heirs of Parthenia were administrators of the estate of Jane Cartright.... One yearly return of the estate of Parthina gives $40 was paid and it went to the estate of David Killian. This was for the year 1886. ...On one of the films I find that an inventory is to be made on the estate of David Killian 6 Jan 1868.

There were so few markers with names, that my family could easily varify that no marker designated "Lott Killian". In later research, I discovered that he died in Charlotte, NC., but I did not know the name of the cemetery. His final papers from the military report only the following: "Complaint V. S. Lower Extremeties Right Admitted Jan. 15, 1865 Died Mch. 15, 1865" I do not know what the "V. S." refers to. Lott's [38497] family was the second non-Native-American family to live in what was to become Dade County, Ga. His parent's, William Killian [1154] and Elizabeth Bost [3681], moved their family from Warren County, TN about 1833. After the death of his parents, Lott [38497] lived with his brother, Franklin [38496], working on his farm. Later, Lott [38497] and his wife, Mary " Polly" Whitehead [38504], bought a small farm in Dade County, GA. During the Civil War, Lott [38497] was a private in Company F 34th Georgia Volunteer Infantry Army of Tennessee. He was captured at Vicksburg, Mississippi on 4 July 1863 as a result of General Grant?s three month attack and siege of the city but was paroled by the Union forces after four days. He died at C.S.A. General Hospital Charlotte, North Carolina from wounds received 15 Jan 1865. Several of Lott's [38497] brothers also fought in the Civil War. Probably Joseph Killian [38444] but I have no info on him. Noah Killian [38498] was a private in Company F 34thGeorgia Volunteer Infantry Army of Tennessee and then became a 1stLt. in the 104th Regiment, of the Georgia State Troops. He continued to fight for the confederacy and was captured at Kennesaw, Georgia in July1864. He was released from Camp Douglas, Illinois ten months later. Serug [ 38499] was a farmer and rose to the rank of lieutenant or captain in the 104th Regiment, of the Georgia State Troops. Lott's sister, Elizabeth Catherine Killian [38500], married James Miller [38508] on 24 JUL 1851 in Trenton, Dade County, Georgia. They left Dade County about 1860 with James? father, John Miller [39150], and several other members of John's [39150] family. Included in the party were James and Elizabeth's children: William Samuel [l38881], Nancy Elizabeth [38882], and their newborn baby, John Nelson [38883]. The Miller family was heading for Texas but settled in Polk County, Arkansas in the town of Mena. James rose to the rank of lieutenant or captain while fighting for the Confederacy. While away at war, their fourth child, Robert Morgan Miller [38594] was born. In the winter of 64-65, Elizabeth left her children in the care of James? father and went to find James. Accompanying her was Mary Jane, James' sister. After traveling by horseback during the harsh winter, Elizabeth became ill and had to abandon her search. Elizabeth and Mary Jane returned to Mena where Elizabeth soon died of pneumonia and was buried at Board Camp, Ark. Hilton Cemetery. She apparently never knew that James had died the previous October in a prisoner-of-war camp at Johnson Island, Ohio.  Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
