January 10, 2009 1:31 PM  Prop Cover
When the boat is in the hot pits, we are required to keep the prop cover to protect any individuals who might be walking by or if someone should trip or fall. The propeller is as sharp as a razor blade and the resulting injury would be bad.

Some guys put a towel over it and that works very good, but the express team decided it would be fun to have a unique cover made.

Here are some pictures of what it looks like. See the NEW temporarily sitting cowling on the boat with the three blade prop showing, then with the prop cover installed.

I think the cowling loooooooks soooo, soooo nice. Can't wait to get the clear down on the wood deck.

January 09, 2009 8:42PM    1983 & 2009
Here are a couple of interesting pictures. The pictures are all of the same cowling.

The picture labeled "1983 & 2009" is a side by side of the first paint job in 1982 (re-lettered in 1983) and the current paint job.

And the picture labeled "our cowlings" are what they looked like when we picked up the boat and cowlings in 2007. They had been re-painted to his liking and been heavily damaged from years of use. It was fun to learn how to repair fiberglass and I think we have found a very good painter over here to replicate our original scheme.

The original paint job and the current one are pretty darn close, don't you think. Only 28 yrs a part.

January 07, 2009 2:04 PM  First Update For 2009

After recuperation from a roof raising B-day party yesterday. The windshield and the cockpit cover were installed. Also all the white rubber seal/molding has been glued on.

Also, if you look, you will see a VINTAGE SIRA (Seattle Inboard Racing Association) sticker on the rear cowling, they were supplied by Dick & Kaye Neeson.

Thank you to all our much appreciated N-22 Honor Role friends. That is so, so Special... that list is also included with this note.

Shown in the pictures are the Boeing Sticker that Jane & Allen Johnson donated to our cause, the windshield that Shirley and Dave went down to pick for us in Seattle, then Jim & Kim delivered the 4' X 4' piece of Lexan windshield, the cockpit cover that I had sewn last summer, NEW cowling paint, and the lettering that I had made two summer ago.

All the pieces are falling into place - almost as if I knew what the heck I was doing...... LOL

The 90" of snow is rapidly melting and MAYBE this week or next we will be able to get the boat out of the shop and down to the painter..... YIPPEE!!!!!!!!!

January 05, 2009 2:16 PM  Dash

Here is a little tease of some up coming pictures that I took today, they will be sent after the windshield is installed. I'm gluing the rubber rub molding around the windshield and cowling pieces. Today I did the windshield and back cowling piece. Tomorrow I hope to do the front cowling molding. All the switches and gauges are installed into the dashboard.

The quick electrical connector has been bolted in place.

The center cowl now has storm door rubber installed, that should keep the cowling from rubbing the new (SOON TO BE) clear coat on the deck.

BTW, it snowed another 5" last night - I'm so thrilled. The school district came by today to fix the fence they damaged clearing snow.
