September 22, 2008 6:30 PM  Fiberglass

Today Del & I put the first two of three coats of resin down onto the glass mat. I may have to sand some of the laminate resin down because I have a few runs here and there. After I get it smoother, the last coat of wax seal resin will be laid down, then sanded smooth and ready for paint.

The color of the wood changed to a very pretty oak color.

September 17, 2008 3:54 PM  Driver Cover

This morning I went up to our upholsterers to see if I could drop off the cowling and cockpit cover to have the snaps installed. He said sure, and if you come back @ 2 today it will be done. It was - same day I took it up there.

He didn't charge me anything yet, because he is also now making me a velocity stack cover for the carburetor.

Another tick mark off my ever smaller list.

The windshield is back off and put away until after the cowlings are painted. The work on the continues on prepping the cowlings for paint.

September 15, 2008 3:49 PM  Today's Project
Not much was done today, but what was done was very important. The windshield were drilled into the Lexan and it was attached (temporarily). I realized that trying to drill holes to attach the windshield with fresh paint might not be a fun task. I also realized that it might be a good idea to take the cowling up to the upholstery shop to have the cockpit cover snaps installed. Again before painting to avoid chips, scratches.

The enclosed pictures are the installed windshield with the screws that also have the cockpit snaps in place. The protective cover is still on the Lexan, I will remove that when final installation is complete. Then the windshield with be transparent.
