October 25, 2008 3:59 PM  We are 99% Finished - YIPPEE!!!

After today, I think we are approximately 99% finished, just paint, wiring and plumbing to go. Compared to where we stared, I think giant milestones have been accomplished by an amateur wood butcher. What do you think??? Those tasks are easy and quick compared to where we came from.

For today's pictures, you can see an imitation windshield in place. I wanted to put that on to show cowling lines. Also the strobe light is temporarily installed so that I could drill the holes prior to painting.

The blue cowling picture is before I filled all the excess holes with fiberglass. The engine cowling has now had the hole cut for the velocity stack and carburetor.

If the economy ever gets it's act together and corrects itself, we might be able to finish the boat before the season starts. If it continues to go the direction it has been going lately, that date may move to the right.

For you local's who haven't been coming around - the shop is now closed for some super secret speed secrets being installed on the trailer. You had your opportunity see progress, now you will have to wait until either you have obtained a super secret security clearance or until it emerges from the closed doors in 2009. SNOOZE YOU LOOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!

October 20, 2008 2:39 PM  Been a While
Hi everyone, I hope you enjoyed the break. It isn't that I haven't been working, the work has been going on and on and on.

The cowlings are primed and many of the dips and scratches have been smoothed. Only a couple more to go to finish up for the painter. He will be coming over soon to inspect and make an estimate.

At the rear of the boat you can see the NEW cover I just finished building. It cover the steering pulley's and seals this section of the boat from water entering.

The steering, cockpit and gauges have been fit to the cowling. In earlier pictures the cross brace that was showing on the cowling was plywood that is fiberglassed in. The final piece that will be glued to the plywood cross brace will holds the gauges, is okume, just like the rest of the boat.

There are only a few things left to do and this project will be finished (paint, wiring and plumbing).

What do you THINK? Did you see the picture of the HAPPY first and last boat restorer??
