9-10-2007 12:40 PM Lifting Eye's
I wasn't happy with the lifting eye's I had build and manually cut. So
last week Jim Waddle and I went and got some new aluminum, took it to my
machinist and had the larger lifting eye hole cut, radiused. The picture
is one lifting eye polished (right side) and another one before polished
(left side)
Today they called to say they were done. Brought them home and drilled
the attachment holes and polished the aluminum. This is how one of the
four turned out.
I also had the new thrust bearing (third one) honed to slide up and
down the propeller shaft. After bringing it home, I got brave and slide
it up and down the shaft - perfect - the last time I did this, it got
stuck and I had to use my carbon fiber cutter to cut it off the shaft.
The rudder is back from the machinist and looks very good. The quadrant
for the steering pulley's is back and installed on the rudder. I think
today I will go get the rest of the bolts needed for the skid fin,
rudder and lifting eye's.
Tick marks are flying off the WBS (Boeing project management term
for "Work Breakdown Structure").
Positive progress - YIPPEE!!!!!!!!!
